(SPOLIERS IF YOU HAVEN’T SEEN EPISODE VII THE FORCE AWAKENS)
The 23rd of January, late afternoon I received the big announcement of what the official title would be for the upcoming title in the Star wars franchise or more specifically the Skywalker continuation saga: Star Wars Episode VIII the Last Jedi.
Firstly, my love for the Star Wars franchise is indescribable as for millions of fans around the world. From the first time I saw George Lucas Star Wars episode IV a new hope I was completely hooked. From that day I became a Star Wars nerd, so to speak, everything from the movies to the videogames.

Last year the highly anticipated the force awakens premiered and left me with a massive satisfaction to my huge expectations I had. The incredible cast of the old characters that I have grown to love but also the new ones which gave a “new meet old” balance to the movie. Rey, Finn, Poe and Kylo Ren (a.k.a Ben Solo) made up the new cast that got the most screentime and I all of them gave the movie the edge it needed to meet up with my expectations as well as the majority of the fans all around the world. The story is for some way to similar to a new hope but together with a mix of new leads, new villains and new concept ideas on many parts it didn’t bother me that much. The movie was great and it left with a big cliffhanger as Rey (Daisy Ridley) finally find Luke Skywalker (Mark Hamill).
The title of “the last Jedi” could mean a couple of things (as has been pointed out on the internet) but the theory which I am almost positive of is that it is referring to Luke as the last Jedi. During the opening crawl intro in force awakens it clearly states that:
“…the sinister FIRST ORDER has risen from the ashes of the empire and will not rest until Skywalker THE LAST JEDI has been destroyed…”
Also one of the main antagonists; Supreme leader Snoke states in a scene in the force awakens that Luke is the last Jedi. It could not be more obvious in this case…Luke Skywalker is the last Jedi. However the mantle of last Jedi will be passed on to Daisy Ridleys character Rey as I think Luke will be killed in this episode either by Snoke or Kylo Ren (my gut feeling says Snoke though, as Kylo Ren feels to apprentice like still to defeat a full fledged Jedi as Luke)
Finally as this is only speculation from my part you should take it as a matter of opinion. We could still be surprised in many ways both when the trailers come out but also when the movie premiers. So this speculation of who the last Jedi is could still be shrouded in mystery regardless of the obvious evidences stated above.
What do you guys think? Is Luke the last Jedi or is it someone else?
Drop me a line on your thoughts and theories, do you agree with my theory?
May the force be with you,
