Last night I watched the 89th Oscar ceremony and below am some of my short thoughts on the gala summed up.
First of Jimmy Kimmel as this year’s host was very good, as he balanced the humor really well and made the audience on the gala as well as people watching in front of the TV feel right at home. Well done Jimmy!
Next the gala in itself was good, from the red carpet to the actual ceremony. The presenters as well as the music numbers were also great. The only issue I had and that most people had, I think was the huge mistake when the award for best picture was going to be handed out. The result that the presenters Faye Dunaway and Warren Beatty got were not the actual winner, but the previous award winner Emma Stone as the best female actress in a leading role. Talk about embarrassing when the announcement changed as the cast and crew of La La Land started making their thank you speeches when in fact the award did go to the cast and crew of the motion picture Moonlight.
So to summarize, other than the major and awkward mistake at the end the gala itself were spot on, balanced with a very funny humor, a great host and a gala going down in history as a great one.
Gala grade: 9 / 10
