A quite late movie review (sorry), but here we are.

The Beauty and the beast is directed by Bill Condon and is the real life adaptation of the classic Disney movie from 1991 and it stars Emma Watson as Belle, Luke Evans as Gaston and Dan Stevens as the Beast to name a few.

Before I went into the cinema my expectations were quite high as I like the original animation motion picture and also liked the trailers of this film. When I went out I felt a bit disappointed, not a huge amount but on a few aspects that bothered me a bit.

First of almost the entire cast of the film is great and spot on, especially an extra ovation to Emma

Watson for portraying Belle as good as she did. The only character I had a problem with was the Beast and also Dan Stevens when he was in human form. In some extent the beast motion capture and animation is lacking quite a bit in a couple of scenes and this is not acceptable, especially when the movie is a Disney property and Disney nowadays stand for quality in the animation department, it’s the 21st century now so we as an audience need to expect more. Also as I said I had problems with Dan Stevens when he was in human form. I didn’t feel that he went a hundred percent, maybe he did but I just didn’t feel it, especially the commitment of being in love with Emma Watsons character Belle, and being in love with Emma Watson is not that hard really. COME ON MAN IT’S EMMA WATSON!

Other than the complain in the animations of the beast as well as Dan Stevens the movie holds up, plot wise with a good tempo and also with welcoming new scenes, small extra scenes explaining some plot details more in depth to the original story from 1991, and additional new songs that has been created just for this motion picture.

So to wrap it up the movie has some gorgeous scenery, good extra scenes that strengthen the story, a great performance of the cast (especially Emma Watson), however as mentioned a lack of good CGI motion capture of the Beast and a less satisfactory performance of Dan Stevens, however more positives than negatives gives an overall good grade and does the 1991 film justice. It is an enjoyable film if you liked the original, however I expected a little bit more due to the hype of the trailer and movie in general.

Grade:

7,5 / 10

Thanks for reading :)
